CLIMATE AND WEATHER

CLIMAS (Climate Assessment for the Southwest)
Mission is to "assess climate variability and longer-term climate change on human and natural systems in the Southwest", and to "improve the ability of the region to respond sufficiently and appropriately to climatic events and changes." - funded by NOAA as a pilot project headquartered at the Institute for the Study of Planet Earth (ISPE) at the University of Arizona.


National Weather Service Phoenix forecast office
includes sections on current hazards, current conditions, forecasts (including fire weather and hydrology), climate, and weather safety.

THE DESERT

Desert Region Institute
A nonprofit research campus of the University and Community College System of Nevada (UCCSN) - "provide our sponsors and clients with innovative solutions to pressing environmental problems as we balance the need to develop resources while protecting and sustaining the environment." Their programs include the Western Regional Climate Center. This site includes historical climate information for the Western states, precipitation maps, temperature and climate data, descriptions of major storm events, and climate narratives for all western states.

The National Interagency Coordination Center
Website has current wildland fire information, including monthly outlooks, national fire news, and wildfire statistics, and information on fire prevention and mitigation.

US Forest Service - Fire and Aviation Management
provides news and information on wildfires, fire management, fire science, prevention, and fire safety.

AGRICULTURE AND XERISCAPE

Cooperative Extension - U of A
Provides agriculture-related educational programs and resources for citizens of Arizona.
